When it comes to choosing blinds for your window space, there are so many options that it can become mind-boggling.

However, roman blinds come with a few different features, making them a fantastic choice for many different types of windows.

How Can You Tell If A Blind Is A Roman Blind?

Roman blinds are a window dressing that is made from one fabric panel with cleverly constructed folds, slats and cords that allow the blind to pleat when raised yet sit completely flush and straight when closed.

Unlike other blinds, roman blinds are not a combination of many slats that open and close, nor does it have a roller feature like a roller blind; roman blinds are totally unique and eye-catching.

When open, roman blinds sit in a way that almost looks like a pelmet, offering a design element to your window space that finishes your space off with a luxurious, high-end look.

Can You Choose Your Privacy Level With Roman Blinds?

Absolutely! Roman blinds can be lowered to a point that suits you, meaning you have control over how much light and privacy that you benefit from.

To open or close your roman blinds, you simply pull the cord to the desired height. When opened, all of the slats pleat perfectly.

Can I Customise My Roman Blinds?

Yes! The beauty of roman blinds is that you can choose whatever fabric you like, meaning you can design your window space to completely suit your room.

Whilst most blinds come in standard colours and fabrics, there is literally no end to the fabric that you can choose for your roman blinds.

While made-to-measure curtains are another fully-customisable option, roman blinds tend to be cheaper as they don’t use the large amount of fabric that bespoke curtains require.

Are Roman Blinds Good At Insulating A Room?

Roman blinds tend to be thicker than regular blinds as they are usually lined, meaning you will have double the material on your window than you would with a roller blind, for example.

The key to good insulation is keeping the heat out at the source, and when it’s cold, windows can be a major source of cold air. Roman blinds are great as they sit close to the window itself, blocking the cold at the source.

Roman blinds also work the other way too — as roman blinds are made from one large piece of fabric, there aren’t gaps for the air to escape through, trapping the warm air inside your room.

To go the extra mile, you can also choose a thermal lining to boost your roman blinds’ insulating properties.

Can I Use Roman Blinds In Any Room?

Roman blinds are a great option for any room in your home because you can completely customise your design.

Whether you need a blind for your bathroom, your bedroom or for your living space, roman blinds will do the job perfectly. As the blinds are lined, from the outside, your windows will still look uniform, whilst inside, your chosen fabric will suit the individual room design.

For rooms that will have more potential for moisture or stains, like kitchens or bathrooms, you can opt for a wipe-clean material — making your roman blinds durable as well as stylish.

Can I Clean My Roman Blinds?

As with any fabric, you can clean roman blinds, although it is advisable to do so with products that won’t damage the material.

Firstly, we recommend hoovering your roman blinds to remove dust whilst wiping your cords and mechanism with baby wipes.

We advise against fabric stain remover as this can cause spot marks on your roman blinds that will stand out and potentially damage your fabric.
