Measuring Roman Blinds

There are 2 options when measuring for a roman blind at a standard window:

1. Inside Recess Fitting

This is the measurement you need for when you want the blind to fit inside the recess

We just need measurement a to b for the width and c to d for the height

We would advise measuring in 3 places for both the width (a to b) and the drop (c to d) and using the smallest measurement

Don't make any deductions to your measurements, we will do this for you after you've ordered by taking 1cm off your given width which will ensure the perfect fitting of your blind

If you want the blinds making to an exact size please tick the outside recess fitting option as we then make to the exact sizes you provided.

2. Outside Recess Fitting

This is the measurement you need for when you want the blind to fit outside your window recess. The measurement you take here is the exact size you want the blind to be made to

Measuring the width (e to f) we recommend 7cm wider each side of the window to help minimize outside light.

Measuring the height (g to h) we recommend 10cm above and below if there is no obstacles in the way.

Measuring Roman Blinds For Angled Bay Windows

Download PDF instructions here

Our Roman Blind headrails protrude by 5cm if you have window handles or vents that stick out from the window frame start by measuring how far these protrude and add this to the headrail depth. This will be used as measurement A.

Using two pieces of paper place them edge to edge and mark them both at the required measurement A.

Slide the two pieces of paper towards each other along the window sill of the bay until the two marks meet.

Make a mark on the window sill at the point where the paper meets the frame.

Measure from one mark to the next as shown in the diagram. This will give you the width of the blind you need to order.

Measure the drop of where the top of the blind will sit to where you want your blind to finish. All blinds should be ordered as blind size

Measuring Roman Blinds For Square Bay Windows

Download PDF instructions here

Roman blinds are a great choice for square bay windows and by following the guidance below your blinds will sit close together without overlapping and will all be in uniform meeting at the same place.

Please choose the inside recess fitting option when ordering on our website

Width:

Measure directly into the corners of each section of the square bay (front and sides)

Sides: Take 3.5cm off the final width measurement

Front: Take 8cm off the final width measurement

Drop:

This should be the same for all three blinds, but isn’t an issue if there is a slight difference in size. Take the measurement from the top of the recess to the window sill.
