As a first time buyer, furnishing your house can sometimes feel like a never-ending task, with lots of different things to take into consideration! It is useful to know exactly what you need and why you need it, and we want to make that process a little bit easier for you, starting with your made to measure curtains and blinds. You may have seen the term lining floating around on our website and wondered what that means, or how to know which type of lining is right for the product you are purchasing. We offer four different types of lining, but don’t worry if that sounds confusing, as we have compiled a useful little guide for you below, to help you better understand what lining is and why you need it. If you are already a lining expert, this guide can be used as a useful reference for any future purchases to ensure you are getting the most out of your roman blinds and made to measure curtains!

What is Lining?

Lining is a soft, cotton fabric that is sewn in between the front fabric of your made to measure curtains or roman blind. Different types of lining have different purposes, ranging from the appearance of the product itself to improved functionality that will transform the overall look and efficiency of your room. It’s a little addition, with a big impact!

Why do I need it?

Adding lining will provide added structure to the finished blind and will help create those crisp folds when pulled. As for curtains it will help the curtain to drape with the extra weight. We recommend adding bonded lining when possible, because of both the functional benefits, and the aesthetic benefits of course! Though we recommend bonded lining, we offer four different types of lining, all with different purposes to help enhance your curtains and blinds and revitalise the atmosphere of your room.

Standard Lining

Standard lining is designed to filter the harsh glare of the sun, providing your room with a softer glow. As our standard we use a light cream standard lining but we also have white standard lining at no extra cost, just let one of our sales team know!

Blackout Lining

Blackout lining is the perfect option for light sleepers and night owls alike! This lining completely blocks out any unwanted light, so you will not see anything shining through the stitching. This option is ideal for bedrooms, and helps to create a peaceful and relaxing sleep environment! If you are having blackout roman blinds we would recommend fitting outside the recess to get the maximum blackout.

Blackout interlining

Blackout interlining is becoming a more and more popular choice for our customers and as it has such a big impact on the overall product we can see why! Combining blackout lining and interlining creates a blackout, heat-insulating and noise reducing product – we told you it had a big impact! Not only does this lining have practical benefits, but it will also add body and weight to your roman blinds and made to measure curtains, creating a fuller, luxurious look.

Thermal interlining

This lining is treated with thermal properties that is carefully designed to retain heat, and therefore insulate your room against any drafts coming from your windows or doors. We highly recommend this type of lining if you like a warm, snug house all year round, and would like to save a little on your heating bills too! Please note that thermal lining will keep out more light than standard lining however it has not been designed with blackout in mind. If you are searching for heat retention and blackout then our blackout lining with interlining is the option for you!

We hope this guide can be used as a helpful resource when purchasing curtains and blinds from our website, but if you have any further questions, our sales team are always happy to help out!
