Colour drenching is a decor statement. So often we see rooms that are one colour with white woodwork, but colour drenching takes that idea to a whole new level that can be subtle or bold. The style works with all colours from the softest pastels, to the boldest yellows, flirtiest of pinks, and the moodiest of blues.

With a room all one colour from skirting boards to ceiling, you may want to break the colour drenching rules and have a statement Roman blind to bring a pop of colour to your room. Luckily there are no hard or fast rules of how to do this, giving you lots of freedom. Your choice will be down to your personal style.

Block Colours

Block colours in your windows will draw the eye without adding the same visual clutter as a pattern does. It’s simple, easy, and somewhat minimalist. The colour you choose could be softly complimented by the paint you chose, or a high contrast in tone – perhaps a pastel wall with a neon blind.

At first glance, block colours may seem simple and somewhat run of the mill, but playing with contrasting and complimenting tones can create many different moods thus irrevocably changing your space.

Subtle Contrast

For the Roman blind to be more of a focal point, begin by choosing your blind before the colour of your walls. For a subtle look, choose either with a low density pattern on a plain background (such as stripes) or a simple repeating pattern. The walls should be one of the colours in the blind giving the eye a place to rest without being overwhelmed. The pattern will stand out, but the blind will not be a busy space as the colours flow easily together.

As with block colours, the pattern and fabric you choose will set the mood of the room. For something casual, perhaps pick a simple stripe on linen. Elegance and luxury can be added with a heavier weight material such as velvet.

Bold Patterns

To bring all the drama and attention to your window, why not go for a Roman blind that has a bold, repeating pattern, or something in a multitude of colours in a show of maximalist meets minimalist? Whether it be a block pattern in two strong colours, or something more intricate, this can work in any room. With the window cavity acting as a frame, the closed blind becomes a piece of art and even a conversation piece.

The trick to having a cohesive room is to choose the wall colour from the colours within your blind. Choosing a main colour of the blind will allow the finer details to pop, whereas choosing a less prominent colour will make the whole blind stand out while still being complimentary to the room.

The Finishing Touches

Why not extend the idea of breaking the colour drenching rules in your room’s accessories? Choose cushions, light shades, and throws in colours that are found in your blind so the pop of colour is extended through the room. These small pieces will stand out and can be effectively used to lead the eye through the space. The walls become the canvas, the blind and other furnishings curated the art.

With The Sewing House’s ability to source almost any fabric, it couldn’t be simpler to match blinds and cushions making the sky your limit.
